Rules of Admission to KDA  

Kiev Theological Academy is a highest-level theological education institution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and is an academic theological education center, which trains it students to become clergymen, instructors of theological education institutions, and theology scholars. KTA has a 4-year academic program.

Persons, who are 35 years of age or younger and who have completed the Seminary program with good academic standing may apply to pursue studies in the Academy.

Applicants must go though an interview and pass the following entrance examinations:


- Dogmatic Theology;
- The New Testament;
- Church History;
- The History of the Orthodox Church in Russia.

Rules of Admission to KDS 

Kiev Theological Seminary is a theological education institution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which trains it students to become clergymen and Church ministry specialists. Program length – 5 years.

Applicants who are male Orthodox Christians 35 years old or younger, possess a High School Diploma, single or married once are considered for admittance to the Seminary.

Applicants must go though an interview, write a composition on Biblical or Church History topic, know basic prayers by heart and pass the following entrance examinations:

- Church History;                    
- History of the New Testament;
- History of the Old Testament;
- Basic Orthodox Dogmas;
- The History of the Orthodox Church in Russia.

Applicants to the Academy must submit the following documents:


1. Application letter addressed to the Rector;
2. Filled Application Form (the Form may be obtained from the office);
3. A letter with a blessing of the diocesan bishop or a recommendation letter form the parish priest, reviewed by the diocesan bishop;
4. 2 photographs (6x8 cm);
5. Autobiography;
6. Birth Certificate (original);
7. Seminary Diploma (original);
8. High School Diploma (original),
9. Family Information Form (Form of №3);
10. Health Status Forms (Forms 086-U and 063-U);

11. Baptism Certificate;
12. Church Marriage Certificate (if applicable);
13. A copy of the Passport (pp. 1,2, 10, 11);

14. Identification Code or a Rejection to Acquire an Identification Code;
15. Priesthood Ordination Certificate (if applicable).

Applicants to the Academy from abroad must additionally submit the following documents:

1. An additional Standard Form.
2. Copies of Diplomas or Degrees with Transcripts.
3. Medical Certificate of absence of HIV infections.
4. Medical Certificate of the health status, authorized by the public officials of the home country no earlier than 1 month prior to applicant’s arrival to Ukraine.
5. Medical insurance policy.
6. A copy of the Birth Certificate.
7. 6 photographs (6x4 cm)
8. 1 year return ticket with an open date.

All students are provided with free housing, food. No tuition fee is required. Scholarships are not awarded. Only clerics or persons with full-time employment at their Diocese may apply for the Distance Education Program

All application documents must arrive before August 1.

Additional Information

The Rules Regarding Foreign Citizens’ Residency in Ukraine, Who Arrived.

1. Foreign citizens, who arrived to Ukraine for the purpose of pursuing studies must comply with the rules of residency set by the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine №1074 (set on 29.12.1995).

2. Upon their arrival (within 3 calendar days), foreign citizens must submit their passports to the office of the corresponding educational institution (which is indicated in their visas).

3. Foreign citizens must obtain a Medical Insurance Policy.

4. In order to extend residency, documents must be submitted to government officials no later than 3 business days prior to the end of permitted residency period..

5. Foreigners, whose passports are about to expire, must extend them or obtain new ones on time and notify the administration of the educational institution of this problem ahead of time.

6. Foreigners, who reside in a dormitory must obey to the rules of dormitory residence.

7. A foreigner may live elsewhere, if he has the following:

· a legalized rent agreement with the landlord;

· a copy of the landlord’s, confirming landlord’s registration at the address of the rented property;

· a permission of the government officials, provided upon agreement of the educational institution of the applicant.

8. If a foreigner is planning to travel outside Ukraine or to other cities of Ukraine, he must obtain a permission from the administration of the educational institution.

9. Upon completion of his studies at the educational institution, a foreigner must leave Ukraine within the specified period of time.

10. In case of violating the rules of residency in Ukraine the violator is subject to the following:

· penalty of 340~680 hryvnas;

· detention by police for a period of 3 hours to 1 day due to a court hearing;

· deportation from Ukraine at the foreigner’s expense;

· criminal responsibility subject to the law of Ukraine.
